3D Wire market announces the first guests will be part of its eighth edition; names like the Oscar winner Nicolas Schmerkin, or the young London studio The Line Animation will attend the event together with great transmedia and video games industry professionals, such as Eleanor Coleman and Risa Cohen. ‘A fabulous panel’ according to the director of the event, José Luis Farias, which achieves to place 3D Wire once again as a focal point to the animation, video games and new media industry, nationally and internationally. Portugal will be the guest country in this edition and therefore, a large group of the most influential professionals in the neighboring country will be in Segovia between October 6th-9th.
3D Wire Market announces some of the most relevant guests for its next edition, the producer Nicolas Schmerkin will be one of them. Schmerkin is the founder and director of the French production and distribution company Autour de minuit, awarded in 2010 by the Academy Award for the short film Logorama. In France, Unifrance has highlighted his work as producer of short films.
Other prominent guests who will attend Segovia, will be Sam Taylor and Wesley Louis, directors and character designers at The Line Animation in UK with projects like Super Turbo Atomic Ninja Rabbit.
The transmedia phenomenon will have on 3D Wire one of its European figureheads, Eleanor Coleman, head of acquisitions of animated feature films, transmedia and co-productions at Indie Sales, Best European Distribution Company 2015. This American woman based in Paris, is a pioneer in applying a transmedia approach within the traditional structures of film and television. In her career she has claimed this phenomenon, first at TF1, the largest private channel in France where she created the brand of its child emission Tfou, and nowadays in the above mentioned sales company.
Among the confirmed professionals, it is also worth mentioning Risa Cohen, executive producer with more than 20 years of experience in animation and video games for so powerful companies like Disney, Namco US, Universal Studios, Warner Bros or ABC television, among others. Cohen created her own company in 2004 (RC Productions) as independent executive producer. She coordinates this with her work as a consultant on such outstanding entities as the European Film Bonds (Denmark).
Eric Goossens, Best European Animation Producer 2014, is another of the confirmed names. Producer and founder of the Belgian production company Walking The Dog, Goossens’ portfolio covers a wide range of European co-productions, internationally awarded, such as the innovative Ari Folman’s The Congress, or the two Oscar nominees titles The Secret of Kells and The Triplettes of Belleville. Director of the Association of Belgian Animation Producers, Eric is currently developing a co-production with Spain, Poland, Germany and Hungary: Another Day of Life, based on the novel ‘Another Day of Life’ by Ryszard Kapuściński, combining animation and live action.
The animation industry finds on television and young audiences, a basic sector for evolution and development, as an essential part in this process 3D Wire will count on the participation of Adriano Schmid, production manager of Discovery Kids Latin America, an initiative by Discovery Communications Inc. to create an educational content aimed primarily at children aged between 2 and 6 years old. Schmid works hand in hand with several producers from Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Chile or Peru, thus having a wide view of the reality of the American market.
Another of the reference voices in the Spanish-speaking market is the Mexican Enrique Vazquez, Network Manager of Atomo Network; a project of Channel Frederator Network in USA and Anima Studios in Mexico forming a new community for animators, artists and creators in Spanish on YouTube.
Along with all of them, it is also remarkable Amid Amidi, founder and editor-in-chief of Cartoon Brew, the most important animation specialized media in the world. Amidi has also worked as production manager for Spümcø-LA during the production of Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon (2002-2003) and as an expert in character and production design for DreamWorks Animation.
Among the Spanish professionals it stands out Nikotxan, creator of Cálico Electrónico, the first Spanish webseries, icon of a generation, which will show his latest productions with Anima Studios: Mad Dinner and Super Epic; and Rebeca Nuñez animator at Ankama Animations, France, participating in TV series such as Wakfu, Aux Trésors de Kerubim and the official movie of the game DOFUS: DOFUS Livre I – Julith, released this year in the French theaters.
A guest list which will be expanded in the coming weeks and defines the rich programming of the market: screenings, conferences, roundtables, workshops, battle of animators, video game showroom, presentations and meetings of a key event for the sector.
PORTUGAL, MORE THAN A GUEST COUNTRY
The 2016 edition of 3D Wire will have Portugal as guest country, a large delegation of Portuguese professionals will move to Segovia thanks to the collaboration of the Embassy of Portugal in Spain and Instituto Camoes. A total of eight names headed by the director and illustrator José Miguel Ribeiro, author of the short film A Suspeita (The Suspect) Cartoon d’Or 2000.
Together with Ribero, Andrea Basílio, Head of Children and Youth Department at RTP, main public broadcaster in the neighboring country will also attend. The delegation is completed by Abi Feijó from Ciclope Films, André Luis from Trojan Horse Was a Unicorn, Humberto Santana from Animanostra, Nuno Beato from Sardinha in Lata, Ricardo Blanco from Cinanima and Vanessa Ventura from Casa de Animaçao.
All of this with the aim of strengthening ties and to build a true community with our neighboring country. This being the first step to turn 3D Wire into a Portuguese-Spanish event.
